For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
One of the most amazing things about Jesus is how He always lived at peace. Even when people were plotting to kill Him or throwing accusations at Him, Jesus never came apart and lost faith. He never even seemed to rush to deal with things. He took everything in stride. This may be one of the hardest aspects of Christ’s life for any person to understand.
It was not that Jesus lived a life without challenges. Quite the contrary, Jesus was like us in every way except that He never sinned. Jesus was tempted. Jesus faced fear, adversity, times of loneliness and spiritual warfare beyond comprehension. Yet He never wavered from His mission or confidence in the love of His Father to see Him throughout it all.
Jesus knew the future including all the gory details about his death and how even his friends would abandon Him. People tried to kill Jesus when He delivered His first sermon. Many people called Him a mad man. Jesus modeled out for us a life that completely trusted in God’s love, call and power. He showed us how to live at peace with who God designed us to be. God’s Word dictated Jesus’ sense of peace not His circumstances
I believe that the greatest gift God may want to give us this Christmas is His peace. Have you left God’s peace unwrapped lying under the tree?
