Spare Change to Change the World

Last weekend I heard the story of Zach Hunter. He is a Christian teenager who has decided to make it his mission to end slavery around the world. While most young people are concerned about how many friends they have in their circle on MySpace, Zach Hunter is championing the cause of those without a voice.

His parents described him as a quiet kid until he developed this passion as an abolotionist. He has helped raise thousands to free slaves, has written a book on the issue and goes around speaking to whoever will listen.

Zach’s story just smacks of the kind of thing that Jesus might have done if he came back and was an American teenager today. Consider this prophecy about Jesus,

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” (Isaiah 61:1 KJV)”

One of the big problems with Christianity today is that we focus too much on the rules and not enough on the call to make a difference. This is especially true with today’s youth. If we give them something to live for, we won’t have to worry about them becoming major sinners. I think many students do stupid stuff because they are bored. They want to live a legacy. They just need someone to show them how.

Zach mentioned in a TV interview that people just need to find what their passion is. I agree. Passion can lead us to be free.

“We are the someone, and today is the day.” – Zach Hunter
